I have been inspired to create masks, in joyful anticipation of the upcoming Halloween season. This is my first creation this year - a mask of the beautiful god, Dionysus, in all of his earthy splendor.
A lot went into making this mask - it has horns, leatherwork, jewelry, dreadlocks and braids, bells and coins and beads in the hair, lots of ivy and grapes, and a carefully-built base made of foam and wire to hold it all in place.
This is an inspiration for many, many more to come. I think I have found a new muse - I love making masks. Eventually, this craft will turn into full-fledged costuming with the intent of creating sacred theatrical performances.
