Our money will continue to be taken at gunpoint and handed to banks who give their executives absurd bonuses, handed to corporations who pay not a dime in taxes. While our roads fall apart, our schools are in shambles and one in five Americans live in poverty, the lower and middle class will continue to be robbed to pay the rich until we have nothing left. Corporations have bought their own pet politicians in BOTH major parties to ensure that.
The corporate run media lies get humans to work against their own best interests. The boogeyman of "socialism" keeps being dragged out to scare humans. If you hate socialism so much, you'd better stay off the roads, stay out of the parks, keep your kids out of schools and never call 911 again. For those who outspokenly hate socialism, perhaps they should be speaking up against the way the banks have taken taxpayer money. That makes them your most hated enemy: the socialist who leeches off the system. It's not welfare mothers and public school teachers who are the ones sponging the largest part of taxpayer money. When was the last time welfare families took $800 billion dollars out of your pocket, then bought themselves a new yacht and a few politicians with it?
Most people are being misdirected, like a stage magician doing legerdemain, to pay attention to the right hand while the left hand is picking your pocket. Media and corporations are experts at this. They employ some of the most powerful magicians on the planet, and their task is entirely evil. While you're up in arms over prayer in school and flag burning, they are dividing and conquering. They are driving wedges between people so that we hate each other too much to work together against the real problem: the elephant in the room that is robbing everyone.
It must stop. If we continue to allow this, we will all be reduced to a life of slavery - endless work and toil for very little more than the most basic essentials of life (if that.) Education will be cut to nothing; it's better if slaves are not literate. Health care will be pared down to the barest essentials; you are very replaceable. And when you're used up, you're tossed out. We are looking at a world that is feudalism and dark ages all over again.
Every one of us can stand up to the corporations, and if we all hit them in small ways, eventually they'll be hit in a large way.
- Buy from local, small businesses - I think that one is very important. When you keep the money in your community, everyone prospers. You have money to buy from me, and I have money to buy from you.
- Recycle and repair things. Join up with your local Makers group and learn how to solder.
- Thrift shops help people in your community, Wal Mart helps people on Wall Street. Giving what you don't need keeps stuff out of landfills, buying what you do need from thrift shops keeps factories in China from having to produce more things.
- Support community arts over mass media. Visit community theatre groups instead of the Cine-Mega-Plex.
- And don't buy it if you don't need it. Advertising will convince you that you need every shiny thing that comes along. Do you? Your money is a part of your power and it shouldn't be squandered on trash.
And I have been doing all of the above, and many other things along those lines for years. The Occupy movement is bigger than this, though. A voice is starting to form, a voice that speaks for everyone who has been screwed by policies that favor and continue to favor the super rich, at the expense of everyone else.
For these reasons, I support this movement from the bottom of my heart, and will pour my power into it. We are ALL the 99%.
If you are interested in being a part of this movement, visit the Occupy Memphis web site.
